Dr. Holzer, a 2004 graduate of Wellesley College, was invited to speak to the Gender and Technologies class of Dr. Xan Chacko, part of the Women’s Studies Department. Dr. Holzer discussed her personal academic and family journey, detailing how they prepared and led her to the work she is now doing with Maternal Spotlight. Highlights included how her training in ethics and philosophy at Wellesley instilled a deep appreciation for equity and justice work, as well as how her personal parental journey showed her the many ways identifying as a mother in the US is associated with insufficient care, support, and recognition. The conversation was part of Maternal Spotlight’s ambition to raise scholars aware of and committed to address the gaps in our current maternal experience. One of our Spotlight Scholars, Marina Andreadis, was a student in the class and we’re so glad to have her on our team.
